Lab

Hamburger Day
We go to Hamburger museum today. There are many and many master pieces here such as Andy Warhol, Marcel Duchamp, and Cory Arcangel and etc.
When we saw those master’s works, we always say “WOW, you see. It is xxx work”. We thrilled at those works, maybe only me.

There is also a temporal exhibition in Hamburger which is about Cory Arcangel’s works.
One of the works is also used the found footages from YouTube and composed different melody from different videos to a sound piece.
I think it is a creative and interesting way to compose music. NICE:D

After visiting Hamburger, I thought it is a “good museum” because it collects a lot of valuable works by some famous artist.
But now, I just question that what means by a good/ bad museum and art.
Today, art itself seem to be commodities and museum as market place.
It is so common to exchange art pieces in foreign countries.
I do think most of the works in Hamburger are nice but I am just confused by what is the value of art.

Then, Iriz, Kelvin and I go to the Natural Museum which is next to Hamburger.
We walked around the museum and it looks like the setting of the film, “Museum at the night”.
We kidded that the specimens will move and revive at the night.
But there are really lots of things to see and the museum is really good for family to go that is recommended by the booklet.

“嘩! 這個女人的眼睫毛很假” @ U-Bahn

We are usually to take U-Bahn in Berlin because it is very convenient.
One day, there are two girls sitting in front of us (we are standing) when we took the U-Bahn.
I just looked at the girls and talked to Meichu that “嘩! 這個女人的眼睫毛很假” by using normal tone.
And then, we keep going to discuss about that girls. I feel it is quite interesting (for me).
And I just think that can I turn it into a breaching experiment or epic theater that we can say someone’s disadvantages (it can be advantages like “OH! That guy is really handsome.”) by using our mother language in the foreign countries, just like in Germany.
But we need to act that we are not talking about that guys and look like normal.
I think it is fun because we seldom something bad in front of that person generally and we will talk about it secretly.
But now, we can speak out and no embarrassing anymore, just like evil =_=
But don’t do this in Hong Kong because they understand English, Mandarin, Cantonese or even Japanese or Spanish or more.
Um…. Language is something interesting and also annoying.

There is no answer about that question.
Yesterday, we had a discussion after visiting ZKM.
I just think about the question when I am taking the train.
What are the differences between ZKM and Transmediale?
Someone said TM is more talking about political aspect and also making open source works; someone said some of the works in ZKM seems showing off what technology they are used. Actually, I agree a little with the part of showing off but I also think it is an experiment to see what the possibilities of art are, just like Doris said that.

For me, I think it is hard to compare because they are different.
ZKM is the exhibition of masterpieces and the cradle of media art;
but TM is just an annual festival with different theme and combining performance, workshop, and talks and so on.
But I think most of the works in ZKM is timeless then TM is more related to recent topics.

But anyway, two of these are also niceeeeeeeeee:] ZKM and TM also let me to wider my view.

Today, I am so tried when I woke up because we all took our luggage to many places yesterday.
But we also need to go to ZKM.
OH! I am so surprise and pleasure because I saw so many masterpieces such as “Telematic Version”, “Safe Zones #7”, “”Beyond Pages” that I have leant in class before. Ha-ha!
Also the number of artwork is much more than that I expected before.

One of my favorite works is the video work with sound, “Les Gestes 2”.
It plays and synchronizes a series of close-up movement and action such as cut the paper, open the can, make up, etc.
These actions are so common for you and me; maybe we even do it every day or every week. But we are seldom or never aware of this insignificant sound/noise.
Those sounds are just like the synchronization in post-production.There are some of works also like this about sound and image.
Actually, I also want to do some works about sound no matter before or after watching this video.

I like some of the artworks here by using simple concept and technologies because I think it is more persuasive to the audience, including me.
See you Transmediale!
Today is the last day of TM.
We watched Ei Wada’s performance (Braun tube Jazz Band) again, bacteria orchestra and also “Live on TV” screening.
It is also the last performance of WADA SAN so that someone would be upset and depressed.

“Live on TV” is the best one among the screening that I have seen in TM.
It presents 7 contemporary videos.
There is a video which is captured different video clips from YouTube with the same song “Every time” and places it on different frame.
It is quite funny that you can see so many similar girls to sing the same song and some of them just like performing and acting but you are laughing at them.
It is so ironical, ha-ha! I love that kind of work, simple, clear and easy to do.
By the way, the bacteria orchestra is out of my expectation that I felt a little disappointed about because it is the TM award’s piece and it is the closing performance of TM.
Maybe it can stays on installation form but not transform into a performance piece.
When they start generating some sounds (or noise), I just want to ask is it started the performance?
I felt confused. But their dressings are really funny and strange.

Actually, I expected TM should be like an exhibition. But now, TM is something like taking a course in school that we can choose different courses but it can skip the “class” in TM.

Do It Yourself! 2011-2-5
In Transmediale, We meet a new friend, Judith who has a workstation in Open Zone.
She is so niceeeeeee and talkative that she taught us to make a DIY coin bad by using milk box in her working hours today.

Then, we “escaped” to go to shopping
because we don’t have interest in these programs at that time slot.
Oh! There are so many vintage shops and boutiques in the place that we go although we did not buy anything.
And we have a tea time at U-Bahn and we love donuts very much.

We go back to TM after window shopping and watched a screening and the performance, Latent Figure Protocol.
Actually, it is quite hard to understand what he does because I am not a science student.
I am just like to have a science lesson at that moment but it seems not a performance lor……
But I also think it is amazing work to use DNA to draw a picture/ image.

CineChamber Day=]
Today, we mainly focused on the screening of CineChamber.
Before going to cinema, we went to a market to see what we can buy to Hong Kong.
But the weather today is not good; some of stores are being destroyed by the strong wind.
By the way, I also brought a cardigan from the market and we met Phoebe here.

I watched all the modules and it really surprises me because I was not much expectation on it before.
It is a panoramic screen that playing some abstract images and music.
Sometime there are relationships among different screens, sometime not.

Actually, the most I like is that it seems challenging my senses and playing with my senses.
Curiosity, scary and exciting is raised by only using abstract images and rhythmic music.
After watching it, I have a bit scare just like watching a horror film.

Most of the videos are playful, attractive and also energetic.
It is a special visual and audio experience that I never had before.
I think it cannot be fully expressed by words.

On that day, we skipped shopping part because we don’t want to miss the nice screening.
If there is screening in Hong Kong, I must watch again!

After the screening, we went to a café to drink. Actually, it is not so expensive when comparing to HK. I think the price is fair but the taste is much better than Hong Kong.

I can’t find myself ?!
We entered a room called “You may find yourself”. I want to try this but it was closed before.
There is a lot of unrelated stuff (maybe some rubbish added by people) in the room.
When you wear the earphone and make some noise by that stuff, you can hear delayed sound with sound effect.
Actually, I expected the sound generating itself randomly before I asked him.
But it is generated by the artist outside the room so that we are part of the artwork and interacting with the artist.
The artist know what we are talking through the microphone in the room so we just talk to the artist that “can you do something else?” then, he added more effect.
It is just like a telephone or a communication platform for the artist and audience. By the way, how can I find myself?!

I am so satisfying about the schedule today because of the “Inject” and “Face Visualizer” apart from the interactive work above. All of these are wonderful*v*.
The live sound performance is nice and so matching to the image but too much of visual effect at the end.
For another one, it is so funny about WADA SAN. He seems to be tricked by his friend, the artist Daito Manabe.
Is he performing Epic Theater that he looks like painful but we laugh at him?! He totally attracts all attention of us rather than the artist.

Kung Hei Fat Choi!!!!!
Today, we woke up so early because I have to catch “Intelligent bacteria” workshop but I am fail finally. =[ I
t is full already when we arrived.
t is full already when we arrived.
So we joined another workshop “Drawing by Number” which is talking about using data to represent some situations.
But he shows some video works about visualizing the data and I think those videos just like the statistic review by the government or some organization.

I think database work is very hard to do (at least for me) because it needs time for research and visualize those information after that. I just have no idea about database work but interesting in because it is more or less about the society where we live.
I think it is good if the artworks somehow can reflect social conditions.

We leave TM earlier today we need to buy some food from the supermarket before they closed.
Finally, we brought a lot of food for 7 days, around HKD 1200:O
It is really shocked and there is no space anymore after we put all the food in the refrigerator.

This is the first day of TM!!
2011-02-01(day1 of TM)
Today, we targeted the exhibition of CTM (ALLES, WAS SIE UBER CHEMIE WISSEN MUSSEN) and the opening of TM. The venue of the exhibition is so closed to our apartment. We can walk there. There are many works and I have not enough time to see all the work because we need to go to the opening of TM. I spent too much time on the work at the first floor.

We all love one of the works very much which is projecting a moon on the wall with fog because it is really minimal and no fancy but very impressed. Then, we just think we can project it at our home or our hand so that we own the moon and the moon is ours. Ha-ha!

Then, we went to TM for the opening ceremony. There are a lot of visitors and I feel so exciting because TM is really going to start.
After the ceremony, we were waiting the performance of Ei Wada who comes from Japan because someone is his fans. The show is nice and how can he make the TV shout? After the performance, someone and we can talk to Wada san. His English is not very good but he said he will have performance with his friends in Hong Kong on April.
